Today was awesome!

Today I ran errands with Molly. We went to get a battery for grandma's computer (which didn't work out unfortunately), we got some new books, we bought some groceries and diapers for our little Lucy, and we spent way too much time at Kohls while daddy was trying to guess if Molly was a size 3T or a 4T (so we got some of both). It's been a great day because Molly's been trying to get over a fairly mild, but still there cold. There's nothing as tense as having a sick child around a 2 week old. We have survived the situation so far and in the mean time, Molly has figured out how to blow her nose (that's a much bigger feat and relief than how it reads, I promise). Not being able to blow your nose wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for the alternative: a method we call "suctioning".

Over the last few weeks, Molly and I have been talking about the moon and a couple of the more prominent stars in the sky. She's very interested in the night sky, so at the bookstore today I got a picture-book of space that has a significant amount of content on planets. We got to the unfortunately named planed Uranus. Now, maybe this is so funny to me because it's my child and maybe it's so funny to me because she's only 2 and a half years old, but when I said, "There's Uranus", she replied "My anus?"

And as we put Molly to bed tonight, I held Molly as she turned off her light. I then put her in the bed where she started to panic and say "Where are my hands? Daddy? Where are my hands?" I didn't understand her that well and thought she was asking me to hold her hands, so I reached into the crib and tried to grab one of her hands. She briskly shook me off and yelled louder asking where her hands were. To avoid a meltdown, I walked over and turned on the light that she just turned off. She was kneeling in her crib with her arms together from her elbows to her hands with her hands right in front of her eyes. She immediately says (oh so matter of factly) "Oh! There they are!" and dove right down into her pillow.

We then moved on to singing (as we almost always do). Maria and I had our arms around each other as we were singing "Jesus Loves Me". Molly dove head-first in between us, wrapped her arms around us (as much as they could go anyway) and then said "I love you guys!" She then started swaying. After the song, she requested that mommy and daddy dance. So we sang "So This is Love" from Disney's Cinderella and danced around Molly's room (we do this quite often during Molly's send-off to slumber).

Lucy's had a very sleepy day and is now in her crib for the end of her second straight hour going on three. We've been very blessed to have Grandma Kahlig around for several weeks to help us keep up. It's been huge because of the cold we had, the endometritis, and of course getting some grandma/Molly time was good. Lucy's been a pretty relaxed and healthy baby and we couldn't be happier.

Welcoming The Newest Kahlig

New baby Lucy is here! She's now 5 days old (she's growing up so fast!). She was born on Monday morning, May 10th at 1:44 AM weighing in at 7 lbs. even and 20 squirmy inches.

Labor started at 11:30 AM on May 9th. We went to church at noon and counted contractions praying that her water wouldn't break. On our way home, we stopped by La Madeleine and got a couple of meals to go. We got home and started a slow and methodical preparation to go to the hospital. The contractions were coming regularly, but were still short and tolerable. We made it to the hospital around 5 PM and found out that Maria was at 3-4 cm. The hospital gave us the delivery suite (seriously, it had a spa!) where we turned on the Princess Bride and let labor continue. Parents and friends had been contacted at this point and I was in charge of managing texts and phone calls as the labor progressed. Both of us got into the spa because it was too big for Maria and she needed to be propped up (the spa was huge!). We turned on some music and had what I would call our last date for a while. It was a very relaxing time which gave Maria the ability to handle the contractions as they got stronger and us time to get prepared for the arrival of Lucy. 10 PM rolls by and Maria is now at 7 cm and is given an epidural after being out of the spa for a moment. The contractions were just then getting to be pretty wild. With the epidural in place Maria decided to rest. My mother had arrived by that time and her parents were well on their way. By 1:30 AM, her parents had made it to the hospital and the orchestrated mayhem that occurs just before pushing ensues began. 2 pushes later (really we're thinking something like a push and a half) Lucy was delivered. Both grandmothers and I were there to witness the amazing birth. Lucy was promptly placed on Mommy as they began to take care of the other things that happen after birth. After the cord was cut, I got to hold Lucy under my shirt for a while which was very special. A picture exists of that, though I haven't found it, yet. Soon, she was weighed, measured, and then passed around like a prize!

I know you want to see pictures... Here are the pictures that I was able to take and a short video of big sister meeting Lucy for the first time.
