New baby Lucy is here! She's now 5 days old (she's growing up so fast!). She was born on Monday morning, May 10th at 1:44 AM weighing in at 7 lbs. even and 20 squirmy inches.
Labor started at 11:30 AM on May 9th. We went to church at noon and counted contractions praying that her water wouldn't break. On our way home, we stopped by La Madeleine and got a couple of meals to go. We got home and started a slow and methodical preparation to go to the hospital. The contractions were coming regularly, but were still short and tolerable. We made it to the hospital around 5 PM and found out that Maria was at 3-4 cm. The hospital gave us the delivery suite (seriously, it had a spa!) where we turned on the Princess Bride and let labor continue. Parents and friends had been contacted at this point and I was in charge of managing texts and phone calls as the labor progressed. Both of us got into the spa because it was too big for Maria and she needed to be propped up (the spa was huge!). We turned on some music and had what I would call our last date for a while. It was a very relaxing time which gave Maria the ability to handle the contractions as they got stronger and us time to get prepared for the arrival of Lucy. 10 PM rolls by and Maria is now at 7 cm and is given an epidural after being out of the spa for a moment. The contractions were just then getting to be pretty wild. With the epidural in place Maria decided to rest. My mother had arrived by that time and her parents were well on their way. By 1:30 AM, her parents had made it to the hospital and the orchestrated mayhem that occurs just before pushing ensues began. 2 pushes later (really we're thinking something like a push and a half) Lucy was delivered. Both grandmothers and I were there to witness the amazing birth. Lucy was promptly placed on Mommy as they began to take care of the other things that happen after birth. After the cord was cut, I got to hold Lucy under my shirt for a while which was very special. A picture exists of that, though I haven't found it, yet. Soon, she was weighed, measured, and then passed around like a prize!
I know you want to see pictures... Here are the pictures that I was able to take and a short video of big sister meeting Lucy for the first time.
