Here's a couple just from this weekend that I'd like to refer to when the girls get older...
Saturday morning, Molly and I went to Braums for some yummy breakfast. Molly wanted a biscuit for breakfast, so I ordered the staple "Big Country Breakfast". That comes with tater tots that they call hashbrowns, sausage, biscuit, and eggs. I have a hangup on the tater tots, but that's for a different time. While we were waiting for our food to be prepared, we took one straw and repeatedly blew the paper cover of the straw at each other like blowdarts. That's always a good time with Molly. When our food came, I gave Molly the biscuit as agreed upon. She took the straw and poked the biscuit and proceeded to eat the biscuit through the straw. I thought I had a pretty good handle on gross things, but that hit me a little funny.
Lucy gets on the board with a little embarrassing moment at church on Sunday. She spit up on the jacket of the lady sitting in front of us. She explained that she was a special ed teacher and that it was no big deal. Pretty gross stuff!

Sitting Lucy
I got a call from Mommy on Thursday morning and Mommy was frantic. I heard a very excited Mommy who has an unreal talent of speaking incredibly fast. I do not have a complimentary talent, so all I could do is wait for her to take a breath to break in and ask for a slow motion replay. She's a very understanding wife! On the replay, I got that our little Lucy sat up for the first time! That was the great news. The bad news was that the frenzied picture taking failed because there was no memory card in the camera.
I'll explain. That morning, I woke up to do the morning shift with Lucy. Lucy's morning shift can be anywhere from 5:30 to 7:45 in the morning lasting no longer than 45 minutes in length. Lucy wakes up, eats, and then starts jabbering and singing. Thursday morning, I decided to get the pictures off of the camera from our camping trip and Halloween during my morning shift with Lucy. When Lucy decides it's time to go back to sleep, that's just about the time you stop whatever you're doing and help her go back to sleep. So my project was left unfinished that day and as luck would have it, that was the day that Lucy sat up for the first time. Go figure!
Halloween was a blast! Molly was dressed as a bride and Lucy was dressed like a tootsie roll. We stayed in our neighborhood and met some neighbors that we have not met before and ran into some friends. It was good times!

2 Festivals and a new patio
Last week was a BIG week for the Kahlig household. We had 3 major events:
The patio is something we've wanted to do for years and we finally found someone who comes highly recommended who gave us a great price. The patio is 15' x 12' with a sidewalk to the gate. Grandma let us use her patio furniture for a while. It needs a bit of a facelift, but it's been good to have. We spent this morning on the porch sitting on those benches while it rained. Molly played in the rain. I'm really looking forward to the fall season this year!
The Plano Balloon Festival was really neat despite the problem Maria and I had with communicating expectations. It rained just as the balloons were planning to lift off, so they cancelled the lift. Since they cancelled the lift, parking and admission was free (WOOHOO!!!). The real treats were the fair food and the "glow" when the sun went down. The "glow" is an event where the balloons are filled with air but do not lift off the ground. They coordinate burning the fires and the balloons all light up for a fantastic effect. Look for the "money" shot of Molly seeing the balloons airing up.
Oktoberfest 2010 was great fun as Oktoberfests always are. Molly was able to ride some of the carnival rides and LOVED it. We ate some fabulous food and tried to drink some great beer... We spilled 2 of the 3 beers that we purchased! I guess that's not bad for having a gigantic stroller, an almost 3 year old and a 4 month old. They allow you to bring your own stein to the festival (need to remember that next year). Spill #1 came when I foolishly let Lucy get a paw on the mug. Spill #2 was when I was trying to be careful by placing the mug on the ground in a safe place and found a way to kick it over anyway. We spent a good amount of time in the tent singing songs and dancing. The tent is ALWAYS crowded and is a great time when the band is playing. We're already looking forward to next year.

Molly Hiccups The ABC's
Ladies and gentlement... Boys and girls... Introducing the girl who sings in sneakers and pajamas.... Even when the hiccup monster visits.... It's MooooOOOOOLLLLLYYYYYYYYYY!!!!
Microphone was made by Mommy with a new tinker toy set.
This past week everyone's been sick but Mommy... No fun. Molly was the first on Monday. Daddy wasn't far behind on Tuesday and Lucy started getting sick on Thursday. Not sure how Mommy has dodged this bullet, but she's holding up well having to take care of everyone. Little Lucy's been very cranky and hasn't slept well until last night. Today was my first time to see her laugh and smile in a few days. It's funny how you don't know you're missing something until you see it again.

The Because Phase
Molly's hit a "because" phase. She started yesterday to begin every sentence with "because". She also ended many sentences with "because". She also dropped a few random "because"-es in between. She has already mastered the different applications of inflection to this word. While this is quite amusing, it gets old fast. What's really funny is watching others make sense of it as well. Little Molly's still trying to figure it all out and she's cute as can be doing it.
Lucy has been a sweet baby doll. She's already logged a 9 hour night of sleep as well as a few 7 and 5 hour nights. She started displaying signs of TEETHING (yeah, 3 month old teething...) a couple of weeks ago... Unreal. It's just wild. She's smiling, happy, coo-ing... and then WHAM! Crying, screaming, drooling and cramming her hands into her mouth... Poor... poor... poor Lucy...

Today was awesome!
Today I ran errands with Molly. We went to get a battery for grandma's computer (which didn't work out unfortunately), we got some new books, we bought some groceries and diapers for our little Lucy, and we spent way too much time at Kohls while daddy was trying to guess if Molly was a size 3T or a 4T (so we got some of both). It's been a great day because Molly's been trying to get over a fairly mild, but still there cold. There's nothing as tense as having a sick child around a 2 week old. We have survived the situation so far and in the mean time, Molly has figured out how to blow her nose (that's a much bigger feat and relief than how it reads, I promise). Not being able to blow your nose wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for the alternative: a method we call "suctioning".
Over the last few weeks, Molly and I have been talking about the moon and a couple of the more prominent stars in the sky. She's very interested in the night sky, so at the bookstore today I got a picture-book of space that has a significant amount of content on planets. We got to the unfortunately named planed Uranus. Now, maybe this is so funny to me because it's my child and maybe it's so funny to me because she's only 2 and a half years old, but when I said, "There's Uranus", she replied "My anus?"
And as we put Molly to bed tonight, I held Molly as she turned off her light. I then put her in the bed where she started to panic and say "Where are my hands? Daddy? Where are my hands?" I didn't understand her that well and thought she was asking me to hold her hands, so I reached into the crib and tried to grab one of her hands. She briskly shook me off and yelled louder asking where her hands were. To avoid a meltdown, I walked over and turned on the light that she just turned off. She was kneeling in her crib with her arms together from her elbows to her hands with her hands right in front of her eyes. She immediately says (oh so matter of factly) "Oh! There they are!" and dove right down into her pillow.
We then moved on to singing (as we almost always do). Maria and I had our arms around each other as we were singing "Jesus Loves Me". Molly dove head-first in between us, wrapped her arms around us (as much as they could go anyway) and then said "I love you guys!" She then started swaying. After the song, she requested that mommy and daddy dance. So we sang "So This is Love" from Disney's Cinderella and danced around Molly's room (we do this quite often during Molly's send-off to slumber).
Lucy's had a very sleepy day and is now in her crib for the end of her second straight hour going on three. We've been very blessed to have Grandma Kahlig around for several weeks to help us keep up. It's been huge because of the cold we had, the endometritis, and of course getting some grandma/Molly time was good. Lucy's been a pretty relaxed and healthy baby and we couldn't be happier.

Welcoming The Newest Kahlig
New baby Lucy is here! She's now 5 days old (she's growing up so fast!). She was born on Monday morning, May 10th at 1:44 AM weighing in at 7 lbs. even and 20 squirmy inches.
Labor started at 11:30 AM on May 9th. We went to church at noon and counted contractions praying that her water wouldn't break. On our way home, we stopped by La Madeleine and got a couple of meals to go. We got home and started a slow and methodical preparation to go to the hospital. The contractions were coming regularly, but were still short and tolerable. We made it to the hospital around 5 PM and found out that Maria was at 3-4 cm. The hospital gave us the delivery suite (seriously, it had a spa!) where we turned on the Princess Bride and let labor continue. Parents and friends had been contacted at this point and I was in charge of managing texts and phone calls as the labor progressed. Both of us got into the spa because it was too big for Maria and she needed to be propped up (the spa was huge!). We turned on some music and had what I would call our last date for a while. It was a very relaxing time which gave Maria the ability to handle the contractions as they got stronger and us time to get prepared for the arrival of Lucy. 10 PM rolls by and Maria is now at 7 cm and is given an epidural after being out of the spa for a moment. The contractions were just then getting to be pretty wild. With the epidural in place Maria decided to rest. My mother had arrived by that time and her parents were well on their way. By 1:30 AM, her parents had made it to the hospital and the orchestrated mayhem that occurs just before pushing ensues began. 2 pushes later (really we're thinking something like a push and a half) Lucy was delivered. Both grandmothers and I were there to witness the amazing birth. Lucy was promptly placed on Mommy as they began to take care of the other things that happen after birth. After the cord was cut, I got to hold Lucy under my shirt for a while which was very special. A picture exists of that, though I haven't found it, yet. Soon, she was weighed, measured, and then passed around like a prize!
I know you want to see pictures... Here are the pictures that I was able to take and a short video of big sister meeting Lucy for the first time.

Mommy? Mommy.
Here comes the plethora of almost appropriately used one liners!
In Molly's never ceasing effort to divert all attention to herself, she has picked up on a couple of often repeated phrases:
Mommy? Mommy. Mommy? Mommy. - Repeat as many times as it takes to get a response... seriously, as many times it takes... Mommy can be replaced with Daddy. It's pretty funny because Mommy and I will keep talking and just start laughing because we simply can't hold it back anymore!
What you doing here? - This can be preceded by a healthy rendition of "Mommy? Mommy." It can also happen anywhere at any time. It can be followed up by itself as well as any other question.
What's that? - This is typically asked when we're in the car and is directed at anything outside of the car. It typically is preceded only by "Mommy? Mommy.", "What you doing here?", by itself, or by an answer to any of the previous questions.
Molly is getting to be quite the little story teller. I sat down with her the other night. She was sitting in the wrongly named "ladder" (it's a step stool) and I was sitting in the couch directly facing her. She began to tell me about her day for a good 2-3 non-stop minutes. Her hands were moving, she was looking away as she tried to find the right words, and she looked so determined with some of her closing statements. As if that wasn't amazing enough, she stopped. She pointed at me and said, "Daddy? Now YOU talk!" To explain the emphasis on "YOU" in our house right now is important because it's become such a daily inside joke. See below... So, I told her about my day. I worked on Lucy's room, so I talked to her about how I measured and cut and hammered nails. She got excited about hammering and told me what hammering was like (loud and "BANG BANG"). About that time, Mommy came into the room to usher in the "Let's go to bed" cattle call. Molly wanted to have nothing to do with that and so usher her proclamation that Mommy should "go away!" Mommy understood and left the moment to Molly and I. When Molly made it back to her stool (er, "ladder"), we started over with her telling me how she played with her friend George in the park on slides and how he ran off and Mommy got him. I got my chance to retell my day, only to be interrupted with a good description of what a hammer is.
The story about the emphasis on "YOU": One day, the whole house was waiting for Molly to potty. Molly and I were having a grand time playing "You Run". That game consists of nothing more than us running around in circles and up and down the hallway. At one point, she disappeared and I took a quick break. When I finally got the parental "it's been too quiet too long" feeling, I started calling out Molly's name playfully. When I turned the corner, I could smell that the moment had finally come, so I exclaimed: "Did YOOOOUUUUUU POOPOO?" We've used the "YOU" inflection whenever it fits in many other occassions and it always turns into an echo. Sooo much fun!

Molly's First Prayer
Last Wednesday, March 31st, our little angel recited her first prayer preceded by "I DO IT MYSELF!" Here's the prayer:
She recited the prayer, un-prompted during her night-time prayers (during Holy Week, of course!). We didn't have to help her one bit. We're pretty proud!!! Since then, she's said it with some help each night.
So, today being Easter, I just "found" the hidden eggs in the front yard. What a magical world it is when you're this young! Have a happy Easter!
Angel of God
My guardian dear
To whom God's love
Commits me here
Forever this day
Be at my side
To light and guard
And rule and guide
AMEN!

Molly of the Backseat!
"Hi! I'm Molly of the Backseat! I'm stuck!" The episodes of funny are coming at a very rapid pace and increasing in funny factor. While we sing and pray with her at night before we put her to sleep, sometimes she will shake her head, "Alright! Alright! Alright! Guys! Stop! Stop! Stop!" Very funny with a lisp. She apparently knows that the more she does this, the harder we laugh and the more fun it is. She's turning into a little ham... I LOVE IT!
Since some folks are having a hard time understanding what she says and really because it's so cute, I've created a small translation table for what she says and what she means:
Soupballgame - Football (could mean a ball, a game or a player)
Meemee - Mommy (doesn't always use Meemee, but it comes out from time to time)
Cinderekah - Cinderella
Mahwee - Molly (the L's arent' getting pronounced well)
Weewee Weewee Wong Waddeh - Really Really Long Ladder (L's and R's are tough) This comes from a book that I read her often at night
Baloonehs - Balloons
MurMur - Laurie Berkner
Bay TumTum - Belly Button
Bibes - Five
I've been working on this for a few weeks but found that just trying to remember them from the moment that I heard the mispronunciation was a futile attempt. Now that this list is started, I'll have to come back and add to it which should not be too difficult.

Couldn't be the dog
Yesterday, when I was getting ready for work, I put on my shoes and one of them had french fries in them...... It wasn't my wife because she's pregnant and would've eaten the french fries and most likely would think it's gross to have french fries in your shoes. It wasn't my dog because he too would have been unable to resist the temptation of french fries. Oh, and it wasn't me, because, well... I have better things to do than to play tricks on myself by stuffing french fries in my shoes.
Thanks Molly!
Thanks Molly!
